Frequently Asked Questions Q: What is a healthcare pavilion? A: A healthcare pavilion is a new type of outpatient facility designed to improve access to the most highly-utilized healthcare services in a community-based, cost-effective, safe and patient-friendly setting.
At CMC-Steele Creek, the facility will include an emergency department that is operated and staffed just like a hospital-based emergency department, with emergency care available 24 hours a day, seven days a week from board-certified emergency medicine physicians.
Should a patient require a period of extended examination or treatment, the healthcare pavilion will also include observation beds. Advanced diagnostic imaging, including a state-of-the-art 64-slice CT scanner, ultrasound, and X-ray will be available on-site, providing the same level of diagnostic capability as a hospital emergency department. The healthcare pavilion will also provide laboratory services.
Carolinas Medical Center is pleased to introduce this new innovative concept in healthcare to the greater Charlotte area, which will improve the access and, most importantly, the convenience of the outpatient healthcare services patients use most. Healthcare pavilions are only one element of CMC's strategy to bring superior healthcare to our patients and our communities. As part of CMC's effort to establish convenient and accessible centers for all outpatient services, our healthcare pavilion will also include physician office buildings.
Q: Why build a healthcare pavilion? A: It is a very cost-efficient way to provide superior healthcare to growing areas. Studies have shown that most people who come to the hospital don't need hospitalization. They either need emergency outpatient treatment or a scheduled outpatient procedure. A healthcare pavilion can be built at less cost than a community hospital, yet it provides access to the most highly-utilized patient services.
Q: Is this a new idea? A: Other communities have opened similar centers and they will become more commonplace as care delivery serves more outpatients. CMC-Steele Creek is the first healthcare pavilion in the region.
Q: Is this healthcare pavilion the same as a "healthplex?" A: Yes. We are using the description "healthcare pavilion" to better describe the services our patients can receive and to ensure the community knows these facilities are being established to enhance the healthcare services we provide.
Q: Is CMC-Steele Creek affiliated with Carolinas Medical Center? A: Yes. CMC-Steele Creek can provide you direct access to advanced trauma services and expert resources at Carolinas Medical Center, the region's only Level I Trauma Center.
